Face the Music (age 14 -18) & Get Your Act Together (age 19 -25)

If music be the food of love: play on!  Two courses team up for a jumping jukebox-musical version of Twelfth Night, punched through with hit songs. Combining energetic musical innovation with incisive drama, this show will raise some serious roofs.

Riding Lights Express (age 14 – 18)

Flex your acting muscles and your ‘vaulting ambition’ in this slick version of the deadly deeds and power games in Macbeth. Join an imaginative, energetic ensemble to give this infamous classic a heart-stopping RLX treatment.

Radio Active – Online (age 19 – 90)

‘Friends, Romans, countrymen – lend us your voices’ for a full-throttle radio production of Julius Caesar. Delivered online, expand your vocal techniques and use foley sound effects, to create a warlike audio landscape for this tale of betrayal and political ambition.

Stage by Stage (age 19 – 90)

They say All’s Well That Ends Well – but this year’s SBS production of one of Shakespeare’s less well-known comedies promises to be a class act from start to finish. Come and help to revive this intriguingly ‘modern’ European story, with parts for all.

Beyond the Lines (age 19 – 90)

A new course exploring writing and devising.  Using wonderful Shakespearean sonnets as your inspiration, tease out the stories they tell and then write and devise your own scenes. Combine your words with some of the most famous ever quilled, guided by an expert team of writers and theatre makers.

Technical Theatre (age 16 – 90)

Gain excellent experience from a seasoned professional: learn effective stage-management, how to rig and operate lighting and create a sound design.  Then have fun working with a director to help enhance a show at the Summer School.

As those who have been to previous Summer Schools will know, around the edges of your chosen course, there will be loads of other things as well: rib-tickling, original performances from Riding Lights, a range of excellent workshops provided by a brilliant team of experienced professionals, the Big Warm-Up, creative prayer and worship and social spaces both online and in person where you can make new friends and catch up with a few old ones.

There will be a choice of workshops available for you to choose from during the Summer School. We will update you with further information about these as soon as we can.

If you have one, please plan to bring a laptop or other device to the residential so you can socialise with those on the online course (or watch morning prayers from bed – we won’t judge).

For the Radio Active online course there are a few technical requirements to meet if you want to attend. You will need an internet-connected device which can handle video conference calls (Zoom). Ideally, this will be a laptop or other computer, or a tablet. You may find it hard to undertake the whole event using just a smartphone. You will also need some way to record audio and video – any device that can handle Zoom should be capable of this.
